Apple’s ultimate success is yet to be proven decisively, but after yesterday’s iPhone SDK announcement, I view Apple’s move into mobile as a complete rebuke to the whole “first-mover advantage” myth that is so popular amongst management consultants and interactive strategists. We are about to see Apple dominate a completely new business, starting from zero market share, and moving to a position of mastery and industry-wide influence. I don’t think the rest of the mobile industry quite yet understands the level of smack that Apple’s about to lay down over the next few years.
